# Beach Access Guide for Emerald Isle, NC

Emerald Isle beach access

Emerald Isle has 12 miles of pristine shoreline with more than 40 public beach access points. Parking is easier than most NC beach towns – but knowing where to go saves you time.

Access Points

Western Regional Beach Access – The largest public access on the island. Plenty of parking, restrooms, outdoor showers, and a wheelchair-accessible ramp. Located at the western end near The Point.

Eastern Regional Beach Access – Quieter than the western access. Smaller parking lot but less crowded. Good for families with young children.

Ocean Road Access – Multiple small access points along Ocean Road between Islander Drive and Coast Guard Road. Limited street parking.

Indian Beach Accesses – Scattered access points in the Indian Beach community. Quieter, narrow streets, limited parking. Best for early birds.

Parking

Parking at the Regional Beach Accesses is free. Lots fill by 10 AM in summer. Street parking along Ocean Road and Sound Drive is free but limited. No parking is permitted on the dunes or in front of fire hydrants – enforced with fines.

Summer tip: arrive before 9 AM, claim your spot, and stay for the day. Once you leave, finding another spot is unlikely until late afternoon.

Accessibility

Both Regional Beach Accesses have wheelchair-accessible ramps and matting that extends onto the sand. The town provides free beach wheelchairs at the Parks and Recreation Department – call ahead to reserve.

Seasonal Notes

Summer lifeguards are on duty 10 AM–5:30 PM at the Regional Beach Accesses only. Spring and fall offer uncrowded beaches with easy parking. Winter is completely deserted – perfect for long walks and shell hunting.
